Dr. Robert Butler Keynote Address
The 2nd Annual Healthy Aging Conference was held on September 29, 2009 at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls, New York. Over 175 Family Caregivers, Health & Human Services Providers and Senior Citizens joined together to address the needs of the every growing “elder boom” population.
Dr. Robert Butler headed the conference with his keynote presentation: The Longevity Revolution. Physician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, public servant and Pulitzer-Prize winning author, Dr. Butler has long been involved in a broad array of social and health issues. He is perhaps best known for his advocacy of the medical and social needs and rights of the elderly and his research on healthy aging and the dementias. In 1990, Dr. Butler founded the International Longevity Center (ILC), a policy, research and education organization conducting research and education projects on population aging. Today, the ILC has ten independent centers in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Dr. Butler is the current President and CEO of the International Longevity Center-USA.
All conference participants received a copy of Dr. Butler’s latest book, The Longevity Revolution: The Benefits and Challenges of Living a Long Life (Public Affairs, March 2008). Grant funding for the conference was provided by the New York State Office of Mental Health and administered by the Office of Community Services for Warren and Washington Counties.
